I once got called Princess Laura at university, as while the student union at the time offer was a £1 a pint, I still insisted on buying a glass of wine at £4.50. I'm certainly no Princess, but its does sum up my general dislike for beer.
So last Saturday, finding me at a beer festival, pint in hand was probably the last place anyone would have looked, but in true adventurer spirit, that's where I was, keen to see why Benjamin Franklin said 'Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy'. Hey, if it's good enough for the forefather, well its sure is good enough for me! Bottoms ups!
Alexandria Palace played host to their annual German Bier Festival, a sampler of what Oktoberfest is like. At the bar, there was an array of different beers, but I'm not going to lie, in true 'Princess' fashion I had no idea what I was reading on the menu, and so did the well proven method of eenie meenie minnie mo! That one!
My first pint. Cheers to that!
I tried, OK?
So beer may not be my new found love, but who cares. These events are all about the atmosphere, and the company.
To help get us into the German spirit, we had classic songs serenaded to us by The Oophah band. Yes, such classics as like 'Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit'... yes, I know that one...
Although it appears this guy clearly did.
Of course, with all that alcohol flying around ( and yes, flying beer actually happened), it was time to get some food to line the stomach. So I may have failed the German Beer test, but I was determined to honour my German neighbours some how, so bratwurst it was.
What. a. beaut.
Oh and Caroline wasn't too bad as well!
As the evening drew in, my headed out into the cold to watch Ally Pally's Bonfire Night Fireworks.
So I may not be a total beer bier convert, but I had some of the most fun I've had in ages. While the festival was a one off, Ally Pally has other events on all the time, and I'm rather excited as the ice rink is back. See you on the ice soon?
